LinkedIn

For those of you who write articles or newsletters, or even those who use LinkedIn to keep up with news in your industry, you can now highlight text in articles you find interesting and click ‘Share Quote’.   This opens a post-creation box where the highlighted text appears and the Newsletter or Article will be attached.  Great for making a quick post to share your thoughts - remember to add some value!

The bad news is that LinkedIn may now promote other creators’ work below your articles and newsletters when previously, it only promoted yours. There are ups and downs to this…your reach may be extended to new audiences if it is your content being promoted BUT if someone else is being promoted on your content, it directs audiences away from you rather than deeper into your work.

Instagram

Lots of the work Instagram is doing is on creative updates. Expect to see more fonts, stickers, and updates to notes and GIFs. For those of you with Hallowe’en campaigns, there will be spooky fonts and themed stickers coming.

You can now edit your Reels cover image after posting (a nice update for those of us who sometimes get our copy placement a bit wonky for the Grid).

Upgrades to features allowing you to clean up background noise and improve audience are being tested.

And because we should all care about our analytics (otherwise, why are you posting 🤷‍♀️) you can now see which specific photo in a carousel prompted someone to click Like.

Facebook

I don’t even know why I’m telling you this, but Facebook Pages can now ‘poke’ their audience.

If this feels a bit ‘2008 called and wants its social media back’ I’ve been wracking my brain as to how we could make this useful for brands…if you’ve got a new announcement, you might want to poke your audience to prompt them into looking at your page. But you can’t do this often; it would get annoying, it is not a specific enough CTA to be effective and would only be appropriate for certain brands. Unless FB ads additional functionality to this, I’d forget about it.

TikTok

Some fantastic new functionality from the team at TT:

  • You can now preview your post to see what it will look like on the feed

  • You can delete and re-edit a video for 24 hours after publishing

  • In a move similar to Notes on Instagram, we can now add Thoughts to TikTok posts

  • You can now mention others in a story after it has been uploaded - great for all of us with leaky memories!
